Well, for one, A Long Way Down was effectively written off as non-canon before it was finished due to Scappo leaving Tailheat. Either way, it contained characters that were owned by a fellow artist working there out of agreement/acquaintanceship, but after he left he couldn't continue using them....that or there was some kind of licensing going on that meant the site effectively owned a certain character in the comic, and not Scappo despite coming up with it. I don't remember the details 100%.
Speaking of which, this comic was originally made for/on that paysite, and thus Scappo didn't actually own the rights to his work until now thanks to some friends helping him repurchase them, the only reason it's here on FA. Stated on the first page's description if you hadn't seen it, of course.
As for the Djinni, I'm not Scappo and I haven't kept up with the Waystone universe enough to know, but I suspect from their phonetic similarity to Gene/Genie (and in fact I think it may even be the authentic spelling and pronunciation) that they're basically near-omnipotent spirits or mystic beings that are either bound to serve a particular person they're owned or indebted to, or who follow their own agenda in a way that baffles anyone as to their true intention or nature.
The one from ALWD was clearly adept at manipulation, pretending to serve one character, but actually serving her rival, while still sating his own interests and quite possibly even plotting behind everyone's back for himself.

Heheh there are a few details here that aren't correct- I'd like to clear them up a little before people get the wrong idea X3!
First, A Long Way Down didn't feature on Tailheat, it was on Sexyfur, and I didn't leave, I was let go (amicably).

evilart owns Dawn who was the main character of that comic.
Originally, I really wanted to give Dawn a personality and canon, but the fact that other artists on Sexyfur (including Bernal) kept drawing her in random situations with random characters made me conclude that I was the only one interested in actually giving her a personality, a past, and a future.
I was invited to continue using her, but declined on the basis that I didn't want to have to deal with even the remote possibility of disputes over her design and canon in the future.
Mara, on the other hand, is owned by
gunmouth, and while I really love the character, I don't have "free license" to use her, which is why it wasn't practical to include her in the Waystone universe going forward. I was allowed to use her in ALWD and as payment for a favor he did for me a while ago, was asked to cater to some of her owners' preferences in the latter portion of the comic. That was the extent of what I was allowed to do with Mora as far as I know.

Don't know how much this'll mean, but I'm throwing it out there:
So many people comment on all the porn comics and artwork being hot. Generally, I would agree with that view, and I don't think anyone's wrong to say it. While this is obviously in advance because let's be frank- you said this was a Tailheat comic originally, so it'll inevitably have adult content. I just wanted to let you know I appreciate that you try and give some substance, some story and some personality to the characters and everything going on.
This doesn't mean nobody else is also thinking this, even if they don't type it out, but I'm telling you here that I can certainly tell that you try and you care, and that makes me feel happy :)
