Uhm, no. The reference is to Hogan's Heroes. (For those who might not know about the show, it was based inside a German POW camp for Allied airmen, although it was more a case of the inmates (the Allies under Hogan) actually running the camp.) One of the heroes, a Corporal LeBeau, was a French cook, and he usually bake apple straudel, a German pastry (think apple pie), that he would feed a certain German Sgt. by the name of Shultz, who tend to both look the other way and accidently give the prisoners info which they would pass on to the Allies. That was the reason for the joke in the background. Read Eva's answer to the interviewer first, then the Schultzie comment and the reply and you'll get the joke. ;)
