Okay, I've been replaying Final Fantasy IX a lot lately (gives me such awesome nostalgia!) and one of the main themes whenever I hear it I think how well it would harmonise with Greensleeves.
So,
chipuni put up a cool microtonally harmonized Greensleeves and it inspired me to finally put the two songs together.
So, this is for Synth and Pan Flute, mostly Greensleeves but at one point the flute is playing this song from FFIX, which if you know the game, you'll recognise. On the soundtrack (which I used my iTunes gift cards from Christmas/Hannukah to buy) it's listed as "A Place To Call Home" -- it's the bridge of this song. Interestingly enough, I decided not to do this in the usual key of Greensleeves or the key of "A Place To Call Home". Whatever. :P Also, I had originally put a Picardy Third at the end, against my better judgment. Don't worry; it's been changed.

It's funny -- when I played the game when I was younger, I didn't know Greensleeves. And when I first heard it, I didn't think of that melody right away. But when I replayed the game, Greensleeves is what came to mind. :P
Too bad in real life they're in different time signatures. xD I had to alter the melody to make it fit the time. :P Harmonically they're a match made in Heaven. :3

Both are 4/4's time, so converting Greensleeves over from triplets isn't so bad. Just loses that jouncy feel for a more drawn out, balladic feel. It's sort of fun bouncing from normal 4/4 time to 4/4triples to vary feel for some melodies, takes it into a different mood, sometimes lol

It's unfortunate that Viacom does not understand the consequences of it's actions. It is as you say, a huge tool for publicity for musicians. Many people only come across different bands and such by seeing music used in people's video's and tracking down the author of the music based on credit given in the titles and descriptions.
Viacom is effectively strangling what is really a free form of advertising and a big boon for musicians around the world. Not much can be done though since Youtube cannot fight it.
