So I saw The Good Dinosaur on opening day. While I liked it, there was plenty of crummy stuff that I couldn't overlook.
The worst was that Libby (Arlo's sister) and all other female characters had the least amount of lines compared to all male characters and that pisses me off. I went in expecting at least a bit more from Libby but got practically nothing. SO I made up an AU where Libby took Poppa's roll more or less.
An AU where she's the one that tries to build up his courage. An AU where she's the one who thought their parents should give her youngest brother a better job than feeding livestock. An AU where she stands up to Buck for Arlo when he's being a shitty older brother. An AU where she does something of more significance than mostly standing around doing and saying nothing.
I went in hoping to get at least a little bit of Arlo and Libby airtime. But they didn’t actually interact. Like, at all. I don’t think they even exchanged lines! >8(
Not to mention there are like little to no stories/animations/MOVIES that have sisters bond/give their lives for their brothers. At least that I know of. I can’t think of any.
The Good Dinosaur didn’t bring a lot of new stuff to the table but it COULD have and I’ll forever be mad about it.

Yeaahhhh. They pulled a full Mufasa instead and a lot of other rehashed things so I can say I was disappointed. :/ It did bring in SOME really neat things we don't usually/ever see but they don't make up for everything that went sour. At least to me anyway...

I'm a man and I agree with you. Libby seemed sweet, and I wanted to hear more lines from her.
And I would've loved to see her stick up for Arlo against Buck! But not die instead of Poppa.
Overall, this movie had a lot of potential and I wanted to love it so much, but what I felt was mostly disappointment.
Anyway, love the way you reproduced the designs of the characters! Both beautiful and cute.

I'm just gonna say this off the bat.
I actually LIKED this movie. Okay, I'm prepared for all the pity suicide threats from all you other people!
And I know you liked it a little after you saw it too. But I agree with you even more with its unoriginality. This AU would be much better and more original than the final product IMO. And I think you're certainly right about there being little to no brother/sister bonding stories out there. And it would've been GREAT to have an original animated dinosaur movie that doesn't try to replicate The Land Before Time 1 (Disney's Dinosaur, I'm looking at you, heck, that crappy Walking With Dinosaurs movie wasn't even trying!).
On my fanfiction account I'm currently doing a re-write of The Good Dinosaur. There's nothing much on it now, just my full opinion on the real movie, but it'll be updated soon. ;)
And for the animation of TGD, I think people would be much tamer on it if it were 2D animated. Actually, this being the first 2D animated Pixar film would be pretty cool! But if it were in your style, I bet it'd be even better! Since everyone WOULDN'T. STOP. COMPLAINING about how realistic the environment looked and how the dinosaurs clashed with them. One critique I have on your character designs is that they still have knees instead of elbows on their front legs, but other than that they look really good! I myself love to draw these guys and spruce up their designs as well. I do have pictures on my Instagram, but I am relatively new to this website so yeah I haven't posted any art here yet.
