No lines .... good .... I don't draw all that often, but more recently when I do I like to minimize my lines and use them mainly for texture, not shape outlines. I just like the way things blend that way.... I remember it was odd the first time I tried it, but it felt more ... I don't know ... Zen.
honestly it was super hard without lines... i got half way through her blue colors and started reaching for the markers to outline.. i still have a small urge to outline her and "finish" the sketch .--. how did you start easing up on outlining? (i am fond of how she looks.. the lack of lines gives everything a softer feel... buutt it feels like i skipped a step at the same time .--. hehe)
I just wanted to do some things that were more realistic, one of which was a sketch of one of my daughters. It's kind of hard to do a convincing human face with lines all over the place, if you ask me.
So, I did exactly what you did: tried something new for me and just drew something without lines except where there was supposed to be black/shadow. I think it was the minotaur in my scraps, but I'm not sure.
I don't think it is as important to use outlines or not use outlines ... sometimes they look better, or the tone/mood of the picture calls for them. I think the thing to do is use lines where lines are called for and avoid them where they are not necessary.
This would not work with outlines: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/7133490/
This does: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/15798396/
Now I just mix it up, like in this: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/7181550/
Oh, also, fur is nice, because it makes lines without making lines: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/15261545/
But I'm a self-taught hobby artist. There are "real" artists out there that really get this stuff at a theoretical and practical level: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/15404930/
