This is what I'm aiming for with my Caribou fursuit.
So far so good, I'm done with the body (well minus half the arms and legs, I still need ot order some white long pile "Fox" fur) and I love it. I still have to cut and insert the butt spots and instal the zipper but the biggest part of the body is done.
Now to figure the antlers... I wanted them to be stuffed like a plushie with an armature inside to keep them straight, but then I thought it might be better to make them removable to simplify transport. Since I couldn't figure how to make stuffed antlers removable since the best way I could think of making removable antlers was using a kind of bolt thingy and I don't know how I'd fix stuffed antlers to that, it's back to the drawing board to settle on another material. Maybe celluclay... or something.
I'm in no hurry, I'd rather take my time and end up with a nicer costume than rush it because I'm anxious to try it on and then be disapointed in my work.
Meanwhile I'm having fun drawing Caribou everywhere all the time, and all that "getting to know the character" is sure to come in handy comes foam sculpting time. ^_^

Adorable! I love the idea. Are you going to do handstands like that in suit?
Anyway, have you thought about using strong wire in the antlers? You can still make them plush, and wire can be bent and wrapped around anything. I think you could still make them detachable if wrapped around a bolt. Good luck with him!

Trying to do darn near any stunt with antlers is a scary notion. Remember that there not naturally growing out of the head, unlike the real deal. With little to absorb pressure, those things can ram into your skull. Which, by any definition, is so not a good thing to have happen. They add head clearance, making hand stands near impossible to begin with. Unless they're tiny to a couple inches, your hands just won't reach high enough. They can add weight to your head/neck/spine. Which might off set any kind of stunt. And, no matter what you use, they're going to be deemed fragile. The possibility of breaking them should always be on your mind as you suit.
You'll never see Comet in the Critter Olympics for that very (and a couple other) reason.

Taking it from experience, antlers are just an overall pain in the *beep*.
Most suits have a couple inches of ears at max. But, man, those antlers are trouble. That's head space you have to constantly think about. Surveying the suiting location out of suit is invaluable. Looking for anything hanging from a ceiling...or even low beams...demands your attention away from other areas...like the floor. Durability is a must. Though, with plush antlers and a bendable wire frame, you might actually be getting an advantage. Also be aware that others may hang things from the antlers. I've had to endure being a shoe rack, a ring toss game and such on a few occasions. A low hanging sign lost to my antler tips, once. There was that visit into the back work room at a hotel, invitation by the staff, that had some sort of strange ceiling fan. (As in an off limits location that I could not preview by any means.) Too many memories.
Removable antlers are a good/bad idea. For transportation, very good. I mean that my deer's head demands so much space, it gobbles nearly every last square foot of the largest tote I could find. Removing them would do so much for travel space. Bad for actual usage while in suit. For one thing, they have to stand up to anything you might bang into. Bleh! Second, they really have to stand up to anything the public might hang from them. Double Bleh! Third, they just have a way of creating a counter-leverage that makes them so hard to anchor in the first place.
Good luck on the suit. We need more deer out there.

I was planning on some heavy duty removable gear, specially because I could see myself hitting them into everything and having people pull at them and hang stuff. I had already figured that if people can't resist pulling a tail, odds are they can't resist toying with antlers as well. And while I'll be able to see people coming as opposed to people pulling on my tail, I'm sure I'm going to miss a few none the less. Thanks for confirming my fears. :p
In the end I voted for stuffed antlers with wires because it was that much easier for me to make. They'll be slightly poseable, which I can see as a potential issue because if people pull of them they'll deform them, but then again it might make them think twice about pulling on them again... And they'll be relatively light on my neck and easy to fix should problems arise.
Watching out for low ceilings will be an adaptation to both me and my spotters, but I'm sure we can work it out. I already own a suit with extremely large ears (to the sides, not so high) and I learned to handle that with minimum incidents rather quickly, so I think I'm going to be fine.
Pictures of the head should be coming in the next few weeks/days, depending on how quickly I can find the last fabric I'm missing to cover the antlers.

Heh...tail pulls. What is it with people wanting to put their hands there??? Remember, on most animals, that tail has some distance. On a deer, it's point blank rump grab. There was this one halloween where four ladies at once were handling it...sorry. Babbling. So, be prepared to have hands "there".
As for antler grabs, I haven't experienced that one, thankfully. There was this one guy that insisted I put my head on for his child to "meet the reindeer" and used the antlers as a handle to slap the suit head down upon me. But, that wasn't at a con and I had no handlers around. The suit easily survived that, as did my face. (I'm usually very gentle with sliding the mesh frame over my head.) Most people have more respect then that, thankfully.
Another deal with antlers is that they make laying down very awkward. Why, at the last FC, I tried resting near the pool in Comet after the Dead Dog Dance. It was a strange position I wound up taking to accomodate those antlers. Once that magical position was found, it was almost comfortable...as long as I remained still.
My first suit used fabric antlers with wire frame. Didn't look so realistic. But, it did the job, quite well. Eventually, the end of the wire poked through the top of the fabric on one side. So, I'd recommend either looping the wire around or capping any sharp ends to avoid penetration malfunctions.

Oh, yea. While on the subject of pulls, I found glow sticks (especially the twisty, jewelry kind) to have downright odd reactions from some members of the public. They just downright desire them, if they're being worn by the deer. If fanatics desire to shread the clothes off of rock stars, then fanatics desire to strip furs of their glow sticks, so it would seem. Just thought I'd pass that one along.
