My model train (or toy train, if you prefer) and Plasticville houses which adorn the layout have been in my family since 1951. My father would set it up every year at Christmas time and I try to keep that tradition.
Here is a view from the roof of the post office back toward the Plasticville police station (from where the last photos were taken). Plasticville is a sleepy little town and is virtually crime-free. There is only one police car, one of the Matchbox cars that I played with as a child back in the 1960s. The officers don't have much to do other than write an occasional parking ticket. They actually spend most of their time having pie and coffee in the popular Plasticville Diner.
To the left of the police station is the train depot. You can make out the blur of a freight train speeding by.
You'll find more photos of my trains in my gallery's Model Railroad folder here: http://www.furaffinity.net/gallery/.....Model-Railroad

Some of the cars are certainly in good shape. Even as a kid, I was pretty careful with my toys. But there are more than a few paint chips on that police car from when I played with it outdoors. The milk truck, garbage truck, and fire engine (pictured elsewhere) are in even better condition.
Truthfully, if I were starting from scratch I would have a smaller gauge railway (probably HO), but this one is a family heirloom.
