With few exceptions, I do nothing to alter the image files that I download from my camera. When I do, it’s nothing more than a crop, or a slight change in brightness and/or contrast.

Not long ago,  Grandia and I were chatting about the techniques he uses to enhance his photographs. I love the vivid and bright colors in his pictures, especially his landscapes. When he offered to work some of his magic on a few of my photos, I couldn’t resist seeing what he might do with them.

Here, then is the “FurrSymphonized” version of my Ornate Smoke Stack. In this example, the noise that resulted from using an ISO 800 setting on my camera is more apparent. Tiny imperfections in the metal surface are also enchanced. But I think both of those qualities give the subject a more aged appearance. And in this case, that’s not a bad thing. I think it’s important to recognize that Symphony didn’t change any of the colors. This is basically a tweak of things like brightness, contrast, sharpness, and color levels to bring out hidden details.
