That particular boss (no spoilers for others reading this) is... something else. They technically only do 1 damage, which isn't enough to trigger the momentary invincibility you usually get, but they leave a lingering effect (the purple stuff) that equates to being hit for 1 damage 40 times per second. You can't just tank through it, you have to learn the patterns and dodge.
