You had to choose. After getting to the hotel, dragging your luggage up to your 12th floor room, finding Registration in the new hotel, suddenly you had to pick a side. Good or evil? Stalwart defender or cackling maniac? Fortress or lair? Save the princess or build a crazy death trap?
