I'm excited that the original Pokemon games are coming to the 3DS Virtual Console! Not because I think it's the "best" or anything; the original Pokemon games are janky and there's a bunch of designs in that generation that are uh, not the best. But it's the game and generation that hooked me into the franchise when I was exactly the right audience for it, so of course I'm always going to have a soft spot for them.
About the drawing itself: these guys were drawn based on what their sprites looked like in Pokemon Red/Blue (US). I took their colors from the way they look on GameBoy Color.

it's gonna be awesome to see them again in all their awkward style... from the koffing with the skull mark on his forehead to that one exeggcute that's massive to the others l3c I hope they change a few cosmetic things with the art like the fact the behind views was just zoomed in on the sprite art.
I expect the only changes they'll be making are taking out some of the glitches and adding in wireless trading. I think updating the art would kind of be pointless, since it would take away from the nostalgic charm, especially when there's been a ton of updated Pokemon games in the last two decades since these ones came out! :D
Also, the behind views are definitely completely different sprites. If they were just "zoomed in" views, then the Pokemon would be looking at the player, instead of the opponent!

This was totally the generation of Pokemon I grew up to from way back, so I am very glad to see them coming back on Virtual Console! In fact I daresay Pokemon is why I even got into RPGs in the first place. I still have the original cartridges from when they first were released somewhere too. :D
Also, I have to say, I've always loved your art style and comic since quite some time, this definitely cheered me up to see this amazing display of awesome adorableness! <3 Keep up the great work!
