It's a matter of calibrating the file's color balance so that it looks right coming out of the printer. once I get it right it prints correctly every time
Label stickers are tricky because they add a bit more thickness to the CD...and some disc drives really don't like that. I once bought a CD off a dude who did that sticker thing, and it got stuck in my drive '~'

nods yeah the thickness can be a problem. I always use stickers it gives me more control and safty to not harm the cd. but here we have different kind of stickers so you have the choice :3
Im testing every cd with the sticker before I send it out, can be very time taking when you have like 40 Cds xD;; but on the other side I be safe than taht it works^^

I actually, just for fun, put up a mis-printed CD for sale on furbuy, a long time ago, with an opening bid of a dollar, figuring it was a chance for someone to get it cheaper than retail ($20). Instead, a bidding war ensued and the silly thing went for $50. I'm not complaining, but at the same time, couldn't help but think "WTF?". I was still selling them at cons and on my web-site at the time.
we have a Primera CD duplicator at my job.
If you want to buy a CD duplicator, do not buy a primera. Both models we've had - spaced like five years apart - have been absolute shit. terrible print quality, unreliable robotics, and the ink dries out if you don't use it regularly.
I hate the thing so much that the next time it misbehaves, I *will* Office Space it out in a field.

Oh, the horror stories I could tell. I used to work in a photo store where we had a 24" large format printer that originally sold for over $10,000, and naturally, it came with no color correction software. Pink highlights and green shadows... oh God, did that thing ever tick me off! After a year, we finally broke down and got an EyeOne, and all problems went bye-bye. Spectrometers are a MUST. It's a shame that even cheap, quick-n-dirty versions aren't available for about $40 or so. There's a big difference between "pretty close" and "still makes you barf after 15 tries".
It annoys me to no end that whether people are using consumer or professional equipment, the manufacturer will give you a single color profile and tell you that the color will be awesome. Every printer is shit if it doesn't have a built-in spectrometer. Period. I haven't seen a color printer print gray correctly since the 90's, before color profiles existed.
Sorry for the rant, but if there's one thing in the computer industry that has always sucked and never improved, it's printing. I still have scars from my early parallel port experiences.

Definitely not. The cheapest reflective calibrator I've seen runs about $280, and the cheap ones are usually buggy as hell. Actually, they're all buggy as hell from what I've seen, including the EyeOne, which cost about $1,300. The EyeOne is a nice piece of hardware, but creating an ICC profile is very difficult, and profiles are locked onto the computer on which they are created, so it's hard to calibrate a network printer without some clever workarounds.
It's funny to hear people complain about DRM on music and games like Spore. You should see the sheer number of dongles, lock-outs, and online activation procedures used for hardware and software in the professional market. I've had to personally crack a few copy protection schemes just to continue using legally purchased software after the host company went out of business.
I can't wait for a truly consumer-level spectrometer in the sub $150 range, but that's not likely to ever happen -- strictly for marketing reasons, and not technological.

Apparently you need someone who works in commercial printing to help :P *hits on meesh* :P lol Sorry its xmas and im lonely what can i say :P But anyway printing machines for example at work normally take around 100 pages or so to be 100% correct. one of the machine needs a few thousand sheets to be perfect lol.

Slap a color profile on the image for the printing, and it's pretty much matched every time on our disk robot. Drop me a line if you want any help...
