Local now-derelict office building. Used to be an office for Citi Bank and, only a few months after signs were put up advertising the shopping center to replace it, people have already started smashing windows. I've always hated modern and post-modern architecture. Though saying that, this is one of the few examples I actually find appealing. At best guess I'd say this building was built in the late 1980's or early 1990's. Those lights are pretty nifty. Inside here was part of the main lobby, which looks to run the depth of the building to the other side.
Delaware is a banking hub in the same way Detroit used to be America's auto factory. The industry that once seemed to show continuous growth is now beginning to abandon office space, spurred on by the financial crisis to consolidate offices and lay off workers. Already this has seen the closure by Bank of America of a complex spanning two blocks in the city, once MBNA's impressive flagship office. And now its slowly seeping into the suburbs.
This now joins the list of about 4 abandoned properties including a swimming pool, golf course and bowling alley. All within a mile of each other.
