A semi-old poem I wrote a while ago for a friend who loves to draw wolves. Wanted to try my hand at an ode and here is the result. Maybe someone out there will read this and find there day a little bit more light filled and sunny.
Ode of the Midnight WolfThe snow laden wind whistles through the night,
It's cold, comforting fingers play through the trees.
The light form heavens orb aids in your midnight flight,
A paw step sends the soft white stars to become free
yet again, to be among it's fellow falling sisters.
The trees of earth and sky with shadowed light.
Fur of darkness, imitating sky of night full and bestir
From the midnight run. The lupine form a sight
To behold, that never gets old, full of life and vim.
Oh the joy of running on a midnight run among
the fallen stars, so soft and white in the light of the moon.
Wolf and the Painter
Upon a canvas, pure and white, there a bold stoke was made,
He stretched his back as if he just awoke from imagination.
With a few strokes of luck and skill formed an idea portrayed
As he opened his mouth in glee and awe with this new sensation.
An error, a fumble, a painting thought loss gives way to character,
With a flick of his tail that no other has, extra bushy, short and stout.
His smile gives the painter great pause, unsure of this adventure
But with renewed vigor, a new brush is selected without a doubt.
A brush that is carefree given to him, his excitement is mounting
He rolls and wags his tail, a waiting for his belly to be rubbed.
With great care, a curve is drawn, there is no accounting
Of what is to become, a stoke is pushed, a brush is tugged.
He wiggles his paws with great admiration, legs stretched out
As the brush is lifted from the plane of white, a painting complete.
The tools of creation set aside, the painter stands without doubt
Upon a canvas pure of white, resides life that is now concrete.
With a smile the painter turns, happy of the new life given upon
The canvas, pure and white.
