Here is a collection of fire buckets at the Kansas Firefighters Museum in Wichita, Kansas. The bottoms of most of these are round or pointed. Back when it was commonplace to fight fires with a bucket brigade, it was also common for some of those buckets to go missing as onlookers absconded with them for personal use. Shaping the bottoms made them less desirable for everyday household use.
