One With The Youniverse 8'0"
A twitter conversation reminded me of this character I made yearrrrs ago for a game of DnD with non-furry, non-macro friends. I don;t know anything about the DnD world or canon so Im sure I am doing Gnolls wrong but this is how much I care (-______-)
I have a number of images I drew years ago of him in somewhat of a growth sequence; so I'll dig up and post gradually. Let this series be a testament to my ability to draw humans like an 8 year old.
Sadly I never got to play with this gnoll very often, but I loved the characters philosophy and motivation; if you are a nerd and have an interest in such frivolities, read on.
This Gnoll is called Kurro. He's 8 feet tall (as seen in the picture), which is big even for a Gnoll. He was always physically large growing up, and it was expected that he would be a great warrior, and ultimately destined to become chief. He found himself unwillingly participating in pack politics, with most viewing him as a leader or rival. But his mind was never on the same level of his compatriots; becoming alpha of such an insignificant piece of the universe was more than simply unappealing; it repulsed him.
Kurro is a philosopher, and he has settled his world view somewhere around solipsism. He views the universe as a dichotomy; that which is him, and that which is not ('me' and 'you'; hence why he considers it the 'youniverse'). Moreover, he views the youniverse as a single entity, one which seems to be in both perfect order and complete chaos with itself. It has no set goal; it simply exists. It is a hostile and dangerous thing, once which wants to kill him in a million ways; and yet he depends on it for survival. This makes him resentful of it.
Kurro has learned that while he can not control the youniverse, he can interact with it. To meet him, he seems a naive yet confident young gnoll. His physical presence is intimidating; his immense stature accentuated by his minimalist clothing. However, his demeanor is in stark contrast. With the wag of his tail and a witty remark, he seems friendly, the kind of gnoll that will tell a thousand jokes and sing a hundred songs before ever throwing a punch. He is capable of making tight, meaningful friendships that can last years, and earn the trust of everyone around him. However, this is all a facade. He does not feel the emotions he shows; he does not think the thoughts he speaks. He has learned that he can get further by being affable, and so he is. What lies within is among the purest of evils.
Every person, every object, is simply a tool to be manipulated; over the years, he has gotten very good at crafting the youniverse into shapes that suit him. However, he is acutely aware that his powers to do this are very limited; the youniverse is so truly epic.
Chief, Lord, King, Emperor... the powers wielded by such people are conceptual; merley actors in the great chaos that is the youniverse. Its nature is such that it can never be truly controlled, for as long as it exists. Put simply, Kurro's ultimate goal is to destroy everything that is not him. Destruction does not mean killing people; for their bodies remain part of the youniverse, ready to cycle through it again. Destruction means eliminating the matter altogether. And since matter cannot be destroyed, it must be consumed.
And so Kurro has chosen a path of the arcane; in search for ways that he may add the youniverse to his being; piece by piece.

It'll be interesting to see how big he's grown.
Young indeed, as the attitude is in for a reality check. The (yo)universe is more strange, mysterious and uncaring of any individual's intents or actions that eventually you get the "total awareness perspective" (a la Douglas Adams' 'Total Perspective Vortex') that you are an infinitesimal speck on an infinitesimal speck floating in the endless void. Any more significant self-view is pretense and egotism. Unless you're Zaphod Beeblebrox, in which case you ARE the most important being in the Universe.
I tended to like half-orc and later Drakken characters for FRPG like in AD&D.

Haha yeah, I was looking forward to seeing where his character went; I was going to play him like an ignorant 18 year old or so; where he's considering himself paramount and invincible. I imagine he was gonna get slammed a few times, and I had no idea where his character would go from there. It's possible he could have had his reality check, especially since his world view has flaws which he could start to question. However if he had some early success I imagine the die would soon be cast; he doesn't consider himself evil, and I guess he isn't in the typical sense; but everyone else would, and for good reason.
Frpg? Furry RPG? What's a drakken? I looked it up but got a Disney character lol. I've got to play a full on dragon a couple of times ^^.
The problem I have with dnd though is its rigid structure and focus on combat; it was always going to be difficult to make a character like this work; when you try and get more creative with your characters you need a more flexible ruleset IMO.
Extra points for the random Douglas Adams reference ^^

FRPG is just Fantasy Role Playing Game vs say LRPG which is more like outdoors Live Action Role Playing, or LARP (I use the two terms interchangeably, although the former just can mean the paper-and-pencil kind).
Drakken is probably from EverQuest, although I may misremember it - it's a half-dragon humanoid.
My AD&D sessions tended to be more of a role playing and puzzle solving vs. combative gaming experience, but I moved away and as well others got busy with family life.

I don't recall ever submitting this pic; I might have sent you a Dropbox link or something once, but I don't recall scanning it lol. It may be possible I honestly don't remember.
And thanks man! Hooray for overly convoluted growth motivation! ^^
There needs to be more larger gnolls.
