hehe thanks
Well Halloween was once called Samhain by the Celts in Europe, it was a special day to thank the nature for a good harvest and they also believed that the souls of the departed are allowed to wander arround in the world of mortals for this one special night, and to scare away evil spirits who are chasing them, people put the pumpkin lanterns in front of their doors^^

Samhain is the name of the special day Halloween is based on. the ancient Celts in Europe celebrated this day for to thank mother nature for a good harvest. They celebrated parties and also believed that the souls of the departed are allowed to visit the realms of the mortals again for one night. But along them there were also evil spirits. In order to chase them away, people masked themselves and set pumpkin lanterns in front of the dorrs to save their homes.
When Christianity took over control samahin was turned into the "All Saints Day" on the 1st of November, samhain became Halloween and left Europe with the Irish and British colonialists to America, in Europe Halloween was nearly forgotten, but during the 20th Century Halloween came back as we know it nowadays and has a revival even in Austria now... more or less^^
i hope this was making sense

I agree, but I think the old samhain was similar celebrated like it is nowadays, the spiritual aspect of it like the memory for the departed, that the focus has to lay on that, is something the church forced into people´s believing.
I would prefer a well balanced celebration both with parties and also spiritual memory tradition like the all saints day as it is called today. Life and death are connected and need not to be seperated that much. If only people would remember the important fact of the harvest and to say thank you for even have something to eat, that is what I would like to see more remembered...
