The gathering of good people is certainly enough to make a convention worth the visit. It reminds me of how my friends would make each weekend an opportunity to play card games just so we could all gather for good food and conversation. Nothing too major, but the times were good.

There are lots of great animes through the years. I've always gotten a good laugh on their plays on Geek Culture like "Magical Shopping Arcade: Abenobashi", "Azumanga: Daioh!", and "The Excel Saga". Each has such a unique take on Slice-of-Life.
There is also some wonderful works like "Escaflowne" that have wonderful drama in them. "Mobile Suit Gundam: The 08th MS Team" has plenty of feels, too.
