Yes, only they call them M8s and G36s and dress them up in a lot of plastic :)

Do they even make metal guns nowadays?

The working parts of all guns are made of metal, their furniture is usually plastic now. But just look at the M-16, l85, or FAMAS for a gun who's receiver is entirely metal. The whole aggressive looking plastic gun thing exists because marketing for guns is really really tough. In the last forty or fifty years there hasn't really been a single significant improvement in firearms technology, there isn't anything but hype to encourage a country or police force to re-arm themselves with some new product. An FN-FAL or an M-14 would still be a completely competitive, and in fact they are, in south America and Africa and the Balkans. There's no real tactical advantage something new like the G36 offers above and beyond what those old guns do.
