Really, Scandinavian folklore is really good horror material, if you happen to be really afraid of gnomes, naked guys with violins or women with fox tails or bark growing on their backs. I could not be making that shit up if I tried.

you do know where you are right now, right?
anyway, for all it's worth, i really enjoyed Trollhunter and Thale, norwegian yeah, not swedish, but i'm pretty sure both mythologies/folklore are pretty similar, if not identical
horror nowadays is pretty samey and saturated though, i'll agree. I've seen pretty much every major and non-major horror flick of the past 2 or 3 years and i can hardly remember any of them because they're so goddamn similar; they all involve an upper middle class family moving into some huge-ass house that the kids hate, and then spoopy stuff happens. it's all just a big blur now.
it says a lot about modern horror when i keep enjoying the remakes (poltergeist and evil dead for example) more than i do the original stuff. ok the first Sinister was cool, but that's about it. even the Insidious triology is starting to get old and goofy

Yeah, thats also another thing.. on what installment is it by now? like 5 or 6? I admit i always watch them though, found footage movies hold a special place in my heart.
The first couple Saws were brilliant, but it quickly escalated into goofy torture porn and butchered the original plot which was pretty cool
I realise how stupid this seems being a self proclaimed horror fan and all, but i think i only watched like a couple moves from Freddy and Jason's franchises, lol. I was never much into slashers tbh

Dont bother, despite how iconic they are, most of those films are garbage. Out of the Freddy movies, only 1 and 3 are good, the others either suck or are too comedic. Out of Jasons movies, 1 is actually not that good but was good for its time, 2 is okay, 3 and 6 are pretty okay, 7 and 9 sucks, and 8 is okay. Freddy Vs Jason is great though.
I dunno... There was a Scandinavian feature from about six years back I liked titled "Troll Hunter" which was an enjoyable feature but was more like a special effects showcase. It had a good plot, decent actors, and I liked the big honcho troll hunter's truck. It was one of those stories where as the tale went on, the creatures got bigger and bigger until the big "Troll Boss" was the size of a small mountain... Well more closely a big hill.
