The medium is gouache, on a reasonably heavy paper. The fox is wearing a traditional Chinese theatre costume, his knife being nothing more than a prop.
Having no experience of painting prior to this image, I am extremely pleased with the way it has turned out. Gouache seems to be a very forgiving medium, amenable to reworking and shading.
