A very belated comment here, but that's an I.D. tag in the buck's ear, not a steroid injector. Deer are enough trouble to have around that nobody (with the possible exception of a few hunters) wants them any bigger and stronger than they already are. Not that it matters much. Like Popeye, deer can dynamically assimilate what they eat. That's why cervines in the MidWest are behemoths. It's all the corn and wheat they chow down on. In New England, they eat almost nothing but acorns, and as a result are puny weaklings, or so I've been told. Out here in the Hills of Pasadena, deer wax fat or skinny depending on how wet our winter was. If the hills stay green into early summer, it's Fat City for the local Bambis; But if the hills turn brown by March, herds of hungry deer will be in your yard scarfing down your roses and ivy while your gardner curses in gutter Spanish.
Me, I leave deer strictly alone. Strong or weak, they can put the hurt on you like you wouldn't believe.
