Yayy! :D I finished this at my art party today! :) I normally don't upload to FA this late at night, because I don't get as many comments, and I love everyone's comments. :( But, I couldn't wait... I need to upload something!
A young fennec hides in the bathroom stalls at school after getting beat up by bullies. He is bloodied, his jeans ripped, and his glasses broken. I'm having such a hard time with fur texture lately. Oh well, you have to go through a slump to get better at something, plus, I don't think it looks too bad. :) I also had a few requests to try to make my backgrounds more realistic, so I tried!
This goes out to anyone who was ever harassed at school. Stop school violence.

I'm certain he would be friends with you ^__^ He really needs a friend. All he does is go home and get on the internet and avoid his mean older sister who likes to rub her smelly socks in his face. Poor guy... he even gets shit at home. XD He needs someone to hang out with.
Such a gorgeously done image. It definitely is something I can empathize with. And it is true... the weird/quirky/misunderstood/nerdy types definitely get the better end of the life-stick in the long run, generally I think the bullying toughens them up and gives them more of a drive to be better than the asshats that pick on them. <3
Thank you so much hun! :) It's so sad that so many kids have to be afraid to go to SCHOOL of all places. :( I never experienced this, thank God, but I saw kids in my school who did and I always felt so sorry for them. Plus, a lot of my fur friends were bullied and it makes me sad for them.
But yeah, they do get toughened up and it gives them more of a drive.

I'm glad you like it hun! :) It was fun having you and others watch me paint. :D Thanks for all your input, too, and thank your bf, as well! What is his name again? I feel SO bad because I'm horrible with names... and I was talking to him all evening. D: I should know his naaaaaaaame.
I knew it was Tiggy, but I forgot it was Alex. :) I only heard it once at the very beginning... and also AwesomeCat. :D I go by Ilani with this group, but some groups I go by Inali. XD Or Shaye... that's my real name. :)
I really do appreciate your input. ^__^ Yeah, I agree... it really is sad that some kids are scared to go to school of all places. :(

This is simply amazing. The detail in the fur is stunning! I can relate to this picture as I used to be made fun of in my middle school and early high school years, just because I drew animals all the time, didn't talk to very many people, and was one of the tallest girls in school x.x I never got physically beat up, but the verbal abuse was just as painful as if it were physical
This picture makes me remember greatly the 1st story of the song Stole, by Kelly Rowland. The guy almost looks like the one of the videoclip, and the difference about this pic and the videoclip is that your character is still alive.
The pic is really good and sensitive, it has a lot of details, but the one that is most detailed in my opinion is the fur.
You have done a great ilustration, people should do more like this.

Poor guy! Good to hear karma pays him back for all the pain he goes through in high school. :)
I always took sympathy on the 'nerds' in high school. I was in the drum corp in the high school band, so I was in that odd bridge between the clicks. Not cool enough to run with the high school heroes, not nerdy enough to be considered an 'outcast'. Really gave me insight into both sides of the high school coin.

Gotta say this piece struck a cord with me since i'll admit I was picked on in school though it wasn't violent in any way (though if the jackoffs did they would have been taken care of faster now that I think about it >.o) just verbal in nature but sometimes it can sting as hard as any scrape.
Like so many others I recognize myself in this position. However I ended up on top in the grown up life afterwards while my old bunch of nemesis’s struggle hehehe. I’m pretty sure this guy will as well. ^^
Artwise I dig the fur texture. Really gives the impression of him being ruffed up.

~Flies in, err, walks in normally rather.~ "Are you okay?" "Its fine, no need to say anything. I can be your friend if you want, I used to be bullied too, but I showed them." ~chuckle~ "Don't worry, they won't bother you anymore..." ~Goes on to be his friend for a year or so, but eventually leaves and is forgotten, because his male secretary( I'm just awesome like that. :B ), never to be remember as a friend, but as a bully shield to all nerds.~
Seriously. If I was timeless, I would go through and be that friend that guys like him need and then just be able to disappear and never remembered unless they really wanted too.
~Protective huggle wall of fat.~ This is great art, and you just have a little trouble with fur when you can't see it sticking out, but thats fine, TONS of people have problems with things like that. I can't see any problem with the fur, and I'm glad that he gets back at them.

I think this piece is a success in every way. Not only does it bring out feelings of empathy toward the character being portrayed and disdain toward whoever would harm him, but the environment... the tile and the shiny pipe (Ooo shiny!!! *stares* lol) and even the bathroom stall graffiti was really well done. I feel like I could reach out and feel the cold of the tile wall... and then wonder how clean it is... and then walk fairly calmly to the sink and wash it thoroughly with soap.
I love it. I would have commented and whatnot yesterday, but I wasn't in the right mood to give what I felt was a decent critique. That's most of the reason why I don't comment on people's works often. lol

I had to look at this one for a few days before I faved it. Not that it's a bad picture, but I wasn't sure if I wanted to be reminded of my high school days that much. I definitely like it and I feel so bad for him. I know how he feels. I had 4 guys run my car off the road and beat me up because someone told them I was gay. (I'm not) It's shouldn't have mattered anyway. Kids can be so cruel. Thank you for doing this picture. There are so many of us that can relate.

this is so well-executed, and so many people can relate. ;_; it's really heartbreaking, but at the same times its amazing you can produce something that touches so many people on such a personal level!
if its alright with you, i'd actually like to draw my little fennec-boy, nelson, maybe doing something to cheer him up. ♥ this really pulls at my heart.

Thanks so much hun! :) I can't believe how many comments I've received on this piece. I usually get a bunch of comments... but never this many! I'm so glad I've touched so many people. :)
Sure! You have my permission to draw your fennec boy cheering Steve up! :D I named the nerd fennec Steve. ^__^ "It's a nice name..." Please link me to it once you're done. :) I'd love to see it.

I remember this feeling all too well. There were in particular 3 people that did it to me when I was back in school. However, after years of being pushed around, I finally snapped and broke someone's nose. After that, I never had any more trouble with being beat up.
Your background is very nice! You did a great job of making it more realistic, as opposed to some of your earlier works that I've seen, so if that was your intent, you nailed it. :)
Pro Tip!
When hiding from bullies, you get on top of the toilet, that way they don't see you if they look under the door.

Wow i see this and i think of the expression "Triumph through adversity" guys like this are the ones who grow up to be bill gates. The guys who put him in that condition almost always end up working crap jobs, and living in a crap hole house with a dozen illegitimate kids. Excellent piece.
School admins. For decades, they insist vehemently on the "when someone bothers you, tell us" way of dealing with bullying. While it would be nice if that worked, the fact is that it doesn't. Yet they won't get their heads out of their asses and just accept that their dreamworld way of dealing with bullying is about as effective as prohibition was on alcohol and is on recreational marajuana. And as if to add insult to injury, when some bullied kid reacts badly to being bullied, verbally or physically, oh they jump on that and put a stop to it *real* quick then give lame excuses about how they so effectively put a stop to kids reacting badly to being bullied yet can't stop the bullying that provokes such actions to start with. To use a metaphor, it's like trying to put out a fire while refusing to shut off the gas that's feeding the fire.
