*Phhhhhhtahhhhh Phhhhhhtah! wiping fur out of mouth* So Millie finally has her face shaved. She also has her awesome floppy fuzzy ears... Now down to the tech specs.... As talked about before 100% hand sewn.. with the shear amount of assymetric markings and tiny marking, there was no other way to accomplish this without hand sewing.
The ears were a challenge... I spoke with several artists about the techniques they used, but in the end chose to do a technique all my own, because I wanted the ears to have a natural swing/weight to them.... I created a dog bone shaped base out of 5mm foamies, set that aside, I then cut out the back of the ear in my faux fur, and the inner ear is pale pink felt. I turned them inside out and whip stitched the two sides of the ear together... While the ear was still inside out, I applied Fabri-Fix glue to the top half inch of the tip of the ear (in a triangle, all the way around) I then dipped the ear tip in tiny glass beads (From CR's Crafts) used my finger to knock off any excess...Then I turned the ear right side out (molding the beads into a nice flat rounded dog ear shape) I then applied glue to the foamies base, inserted it into the ear, and made sure it was nice, flat, and smooth, I then sewed them into pre-cut C shaped holes in the mask. The weight in the ears allows for so much expression! If I tilt my head back, the ears fall flat against my head (angry/fear expression) Head in normal forward facing position (alert/neutral) Flipping head (Ears flop up into a perked position, great for pictures :) )
Now all that is left Is to apply some paint to blend areas and create detail... as well as applying the lips....and finally the closure for the back of the hood.... The next time you see her, I will be donning the entire suit (feet paws, mask, hand paws, arm sleeves) for a 360 photo shoot of this pretty girl :)
The next WIP's will be of hand paws and arm sleeves.
