Ahriman was given the title "Lord" in his rank because, when he became Colonel of his regiment, most of the troops under his command gave him the mocking title due to his Noble Background, believing him to be a blue blooded snob who was only given the rank because of his background. The truth was that the enemy faction had sent hundreds of assassins to kill higher ranked US commanding officers. They mostly succeeded, and the US army was giving promotions to anyone who had the potential to lead (unorthodox admittedly). After gaining their respect, the title Lord Colonel became more of a light-hearted joke

Now in terms of his armor, lets just say that the US army (and some other countries in my universe) has gotten a little fancy with the dress code. And armies in my universe fought with Guns and Swords (cuz rule of cool). Though Ahriman did, of course, fought majorly with a rifle and pistol, and only used his sword when he could not use either.
