also, is this supposed to be transparent?

Thank you so much! This is a transparent image, and I'm new to this site so I'm a little unsure about why the background is black. As for the shading, I basically had two layers on top of my flat colors, the one for shadows was set on Multiply and I used a purpleish gray to shade, and the next layer up was luminosity (in SAI) and I used a very light cream color.

HMM usually when this happens to me I just re-upload the file & it usually fixes it! I hope that might work for you!

Thanks, I'll try that! Oh yes I'm always looking for new techniques! This is from like 2011 so I've gotten a lot better; I'm just moving my gallery over from my Deviantart. C: Basically I just play around with whatever works. One thing I do now is on the shading layer I color the whole character and then use the eraser tool where the light is hitting them. It helps keep the shadows where they need to be.
