In a magical world with overcrowded prisons, an enterprising mage found a solution: glass golems! Magical enchantments grant these creatures not only life, but incredible strength and durability. They are immune to almost all forms of damage, both physical and magical, and are strong enough to break down walls and doors with ease.
When a new golem is created, they are assigned a specific target. They will then track this target down with ruthless efficiency, breaking through any defenses like a juggernaut. Once within range, the golem will grab her intended prey and swallow them whole. The glass golem serves as both enforcer and prison: her clear glass body stretches and deforms once, and only once, to make room for the criminal, and once they are safely captured, the glass belly and throat harden permanently, trapping the target inside forever. The enchantment that grants life to the golem will, as a side effect, also keep the target alive for as long as the golem continues to function. Thus, the criminal is removed from society and no longer able to hurt anyone.
But what to do with the golem now? She cannot be re-used, but she is a living, thinking being; it would be wrong to lock her away in some hole or closet somewhere. And the criminal trapped inside is no longer a threat; escape is practically impossible, and they can no longer harm others, regardless of where the golem is. Her body is soundproof, so no one will have to listen to the screams, sobs, and threats of her captive.
So, with her duty complete, the golem is set free, allowed to join society and do whatever she wishes with herself. True, her life is bound to be full of awkward moments and strange looks, due to the fact that the criminal she has captured is still visible through her clear glass body. But she will find friends who can accept her for who she is; some may even find watching the struggles fascinating. Her life will have its ups and downs, just as every life does, but she will be free to choose a path for herself. I bet the criminal trapped inside her wishes they still had that luxury.

What you have created is a torture machine. It's kinder to just kill them. Pain from bed sores and cramps would be unending. If if the magtic prevents that, prisoners would go insane within weeks at most. Not to mention you now have tens of thousands of ambulatory torture golems running around. At least if they are digested they get recycled. 83
Yep, you pretty much hit the nail on the head there. I had imagined that the magic would prevent things like bed sores and cramps, so it'd just be the insanity thing. In my drafts of this, I had attempted to include another paragraph implying that the narrator is unreliable and leaving out information that would suggest that there's more to the creation/release of these creatures than the reasons publicly given, but I couldn't make it feel right.
There would definitely have to be a limit to how many of them they make, though.

Well, I'll say up front, I love casual cruelty! I imagine most people into unwilling and/or fatal vore do. I imagine some golems take sadistic glee in watching the silent suffering of horrible serial killers sentenced to hundreds of life sentences, as would her friends! But, that's kinda reserved for the worst of the worst. The kind that she only cares about because they fill them, and her life was horrible the first few hours she was created, until finally filling her void!
I can imagine other takes on this. Perhaps the golems mean well, and are trying to reform their captives? Not that sort of vore reformation, the other kind! Their only way of communicating is by sight, but perhaps the captive could read what she wants him to, and see everyone else enjoying themselves around him. This sort of glass golem would form a motherly bond, treating the captive like a disobedient child with the intention of releasing them years later. Of course, it sounds like the only release is shattering her, but this kind of creature would be happy to die if it meant turning their baby into a whole new, nicer person!
If they are used for all sorts of criminals, it'd get quite tragic! Imagine if she had gobbled up some rebel supporter indefinitely who never hurt anybody? A man with a wife, who the golem feels she must make friends with. The couple can still see each other, the three can be as friendly as they want, but the creature is just doing her job, trying to make the process of being sealed inside her forever as gentle as legally possible! The wife would miss his voice so much, she wished they were swallowed together! And the golem too wished more than anything that she could swallow her new friend, so the couple could be together forever! The closest thing they could do was the wife committing some horrible crime in order to be swallowed by another golem, so at least they'd both be immortal! These two golems marry, and live the life their captives dreamed of!
Mmmmm, so many possibilities for delicious tragedy!

Yeah, there's something about the casualness of this sort of thing that appeals to me. Those are all some interesting ideas, though, especially those last ones! I've had a couple other ideas along those lines as well; for example, what if a golem somehow obtains proof that the person inside her is innocent? Does she sacrifice her own life to set them free?
This seems like a very interesting idea. But what if one were to break a glass golem? Glass golems may be immune to almost all forms of damage, but only *almost* all. A extremely dangerous villain could potentially find a way to break a glass golem. If so, is there an alternate golem type stronger than even glass golems, or would the world fall? That would be a extremely interesting idea.
