Hrm, well the 3d would be best for the sculture for sure, so then they could cast good shadows across the walls in either direction (remember that there's TWO light sources at least, so at least 2 shadows, the the further flame away would cast a weaker shadow then the closer one). As for if it's a tapestry, I'd go for maybe painting it so it looks more authentic, then import it into 3d so you can add small ripples or wrinkles in the fabric that will also use light/shadow play. Also, a few jems in the tapestry would have some nice bright sparkles for contrast against the colors if done right ^___^
Mmmmtrue.. personally, I think if you kept the colors to soft goldens and oranges, if not just drab grey and browns (like pottery clays), it wont draw to much attention, especially with the more colorful fires infront of them. If you also make them more vertical then horizontal, the eye will flow up and down easily, but will snag on the horizontal banner, then trail down to lock on the much larger naga :)
