Now this... this is a stripp comic I and my friends do together called Nerd Culture (or Nördkultur) it's in swedish.
The bubbles say...
1: "I think Balalajka is awesome"
2: "mhh"
3: "But Revi is übercool as well."
4: "I know! Kyahh!"
5: "Umm..."
6: "Can you ONLY talk about nerd stuff?"
7: "...yes?"

I honestly dont know personaly, but 2 of my uncles n my fathers side told me about it. They payed some company to look up our familys history. I had the book about it but its back in my uncles hands, I wanna say it was earlier than the 1800's but i certainly could be wrong. Either way im part swedish, Blue eyes and had stark blonde hair as a child but it got darker as i got older, Must have been the Indian in me from both sides of the family =D
It's Revi, official translation. The 'b' becomes a 'v' because in Japanese and Chinese 'b' and 'v' are pronounced exactly the same, and also because "Rebi" sounds retarded. It's like how they call Rokuro "Rock": it's just an easier nickname for the international culture of Roanapur to remember.
If someone says it's "Levi", though, punch them in the face.

lol? punch them in the face? I remember that old Hellsing translation I came across somewhere... where they didn't say Alucard but Arucard. °_^
Ohn and only so you know... for a German mind Revi sounds still better than Rebi, but Rebi doesn't sound retarded. So, I think I took that a bit as a... not-so-nice 'compliment' for my mother tongue... or my taste.

Well... Revi doesn't even know German, so there! Seriously, though, I have no clue what sounds good in German. I know a little bit of German but not nearly enough to notice any pronunciation patterns.
The Arucard thing is pretty much the same sort of situation as the v=b one. Hirano is rough on translators because he will sometimes have the names in English, but he'll keep spelling them differently. His English is really pretty bad (he once wrote "wolrd" in the manga, even), but people were still trying to latch onto specific spellings he'd write and insist they were the proper English way. Luckily Hirano has come out and settled that it is Alucard multiple times now.

I don't complan that it's written and pronounced Revi I complain about your harsh word 'retarded' to describe how it sounds, so there! ;)
And it's good they settled it. I laughed a lot about the Arucard-thing. I can imagine the problem here is similar. good translation is an art form.
