Dire circumstances
"Scav! Kiya!" Lyle roared out, pacing along Leviamon's back, it was a wonder none of them were flying off, the sun was just coming out from the horizon after a long nights rest. And he couldn't believe that at such a pivitol moment in their journey the two dragons would just be snoozing. "Both of you WAKE!" He swiped a paw at Kiya's backside, sending Kiya leaping out of his nap and rubbing at the claw mark at his rump. "UP!" He then bit at Scav's tail, a high pitched yell piercing the silence as Scav pulled away.
"Damn it what was that about Lyle?! That was uncalled for." Scav cried out, rubbing his tail, bits of data coming out but too small to be of any signifigance.
Kiya looked similarly irritated, both dragons looming over Lyle as if they were ready to pounce. "You didn't have to claw and bite us you know!"
This time it was Lyle's turn to retaliate, He stood at full hight, growling down at the two rookie digimon before roaring out his reply. "You two don't seem to understand the seriousness of the situation! We're coming into the south's territory. If you're not ready it'll pick you apart. Selected warriors of the high lords or not...this part of the digital world only follows one law and that's survival of the fittest."
Scavenger rubbed over his tail, the orange and blue colored Agumon keeping his eyes tracked on Lyle in observation. "I thought only the High lords Guardians were allowed to travel to other regions...so how is it you yourself know these things? Did Smithy tell you in detail?"
"No. It was the one time I had to fill in for him as Guardian." Lyle grumbled out. When they finally made it to the shore, he started scanning the beach to make sure nothing would jump out at them.
Kiya was next to climb off, running down Leviamon's long muzzle and diving onto the soft sand. Followed by Scav who simply hopped off, avoiding falling on Kiya in the process. "So..." It was Kiya that spoke up this time, wiping a bit of sand off with a shrug. "Why did you have to fill in for him? I mean...did something happen to him?"
Lyle waited until Leviamon started cloaking itself beneath the oceans surface before responding, leading them both up hill. "Yeah, he became lunch that's what happened. He had the bright idea to challenge Baihumon's wishes and paid dearly for it that day. Since I was the one long chosen to be Smithy's replacement should something happen, I had to make travel arrangements to the south to visit lord Zhuqiaomon in his place."
There was a moment of silence as the Dracomon and Agumon contemplated that. Baihumon didn't seem aggressive during their initial meeting with him. Maybe...the four lords behaved differently towards guests than their pupils. And Kiya was about to take a step forward till Scav grabbed his paw. "Digivolve. We're surrounded."
"I told you both to be prepared." Lyle grumbled, watching both Scav and Kiya materialize their digivices.
"Now's seriously not the time." Kiya growled out, digivolving into his green Coredramon form, as did Scav to Geogreymon. A pack of Buraimon coming out of the shadows to greet them. They had the trio completely surrounded. "This might be more troublesome than those Parasimon we encountered in Leviamon's belly..."
Scav scanned the area, it looked like the Buraimon numbered in the hundreds. They were waiting for them to hit the shore, but why weren't any of them attacking. "They won't attack in numbers...they're containing us. Somebody is coordinating their efforts."
"Very observant of you. I guess we won't catch you completely off guard afterall." The Buraimon's formation cut infront of the trio. The being that came from the opening created by the bird like digimon left Lyle pale as a ghost.
He lowered his head, growling low. "Chronomon...You've been corrupted by the darkness? You were Zhuqiaomon's closest advisor...How could you of all people become tainted."
Chronomon stared Lyle down, his frame towering over the trio. his body looked to be a crimson red, with what looked to be a black sun tatooed on his wrists. A pair of large, mechanical wings decorating his back, their tips looking like a pair of gaping jaws ready to bite down on their prey. eight feathered spines protruded from his back with orange hair showing beneath his darkened black helmet. "For hundreds of years I lived in peace. Working closely with Zhuqiaomon so that this region could thrive. It's always been about survival of the fittest while I tried to ensure even the weak had a place to stay. Eventually, I got tired of living under Zhuqiaomon's shadow, I decided to take action."
"By staging a coup?" Scav asked, confronting the massive dragon type digimon. "Besides...If you've fallen to Darkness aren't you doing the opposite of what you've been aiming for?"
Chronomon snorted in amusement, lifting a single clawed paw. "What I've been aiming for...past tense my little dinosaur. Now I want to uphold the law of survival of the fittest. I'll challenge Zhuqiaomon for the position of high lord and then absorb his data. It's not as if he can stop me. I'm one of the few rare digimon that have had the honor of recieving the title of a Super Ultimate."
"Super...ultimate?" Kiya asked, wondering exactly what the term meant. He thought after Ultimate was just Mega. Could there be something more? "Lyle. What's a Super Ultimate?"
Lyle's claws were digging into the ground, he growled in fury. "It's a class of digimon above Mega. There are said to be less than 10 super ultimates in the digital world. But even one is powerful enough to destroy an entire region. Meaning fighting him would be pointless at our current power levels."
Chronomon smirked, listening in to their conversation. "That would indeed be unadvisable. So...both of you hand over your digivices and let us convert you to the darkness and we can avoid any sort of bloodshed."
Scav shook his head, growling as he pressed back to back to Kiya, whispering quietly. "I need you to take Lyle and fly as soon as I give you an opening..."
Swallowing quietly, the Coredramon turned his head ever so slightly. "I can't leave you here by yourself. Besides you heard Lyle and Chronomon you're no match for him."
"Maybe not. But I can probably fend him off for five minutes at best. I still have the shine mode afterall. It's proven effective against creatures of Darkness. Meet zhuqiaomon and get his blessing for your digivice. If one of us ends up corrupted I'd at least like the other to be given the opportunity to live to fight another day and restore the other." Scav whispered, then started glowing, digivolving further into Rizegreymon Shine Mode. "Go now!"
Lyle's eyes went wide, but before he could roar out in protest, Kiya was already snatching him off the ground and flying as fast as his wings could take them. "Gusty blade!" Chronomon called out, his claws slashing forward as a blade of wind went hurtling toward Kiya. Only for Scav to dive head on into the attack, using the barrel on his right hand to cut through it.
"I won't let you hurt them." Scav declared, an angry glare in his eyes. "Super ultimate or not. I have the power of light on my side and I won't let you have your way. Trident Revolver!!!" Scavenger called out, firing three rounds of fire, ice and light into Chronomon's chest, knocking the guy back a couple inches, leaving a smirk on Scavenger's face. "Super ultimate or not...The Shine mode is having an effect on you."
Chronomon simply used a claw to dust off a few bits of ice off his chest, shaking his head up at Scav. "You really don't understand a thing do you. Goulish bind!" Chronomon called out, a wave of Darkness enshrouding Scavenger, the light within him partially fighting off what was quickly becoming apparently known as body paralysis slowly creeping into his form. "Shine mode or not...You lack the power as an ultimate to vanquish a Super Ultimate. And I think you knew that...it's why you sent your friends away to escape. Let them go to Zhuqiaomon...it won't save them. I'm already beyond him."
Scavenger growled as some force was pulling him toward Chronomon, despite all of his anger he could not break free of this paralysis, and he was staring the evil digimon eye to eye. "Good luck converting me...You'll find that it won't be as easy as you think."
There was a resounding roar in the area shortly after, forcing a cringe out of Kiya as he knew all too well who it belonged too. "Lyle where is Zhuqiaomon's lair. We need to get there yesterday!"
"Just keep going forward...we need to find a lake bed of Lava...his lair will be in a castle situated nearby." Lyle described, cringing at the roar and looking up at Kiya. "But we should be rescuing Scav."
"Shush..." was all Kiya said, flying as fast as he could, once he saw the massive lake of lava he knew he was in the right place. He didn't need Lyle stating the obvious. Scav was a good friend of his, and he'd definitely save him. But only when they knew they had the firepower to do so.
Landing safely on the castle's stone bridge, Kiya let Lyle down on the ground but refused to revert back into a Dracomon just yet. They were in Zhuqiaomon's domain now, but that didn't mean they were safe. He looked over the railings to see bubbling pits of lava. "Sovereign of the incandescent flames. I think his choice of housing shows just the type of digimon he is."
Lyle gave Kiya what looked to be a "Don't SAY that." look as they crossed the bridge. The place certainly didn't look much more inviting inside of the castle. There were water channels flowing with lava, one could only assume it cycled down from the lake below.
With one swift motion, Lyle was snatched off the ground and lifted to above one of the channels of lava by what looked to be an anthro avian digimon. With a quick scan of his digivice, Kiya was able to identify their attacker as Ravemon. "what brings two Foreigners to the palace of Incandescent flames."
Kiya sprang forward, snatching Lyle out of Ravemon's grasp and kicked him into the lava. "I don't have time for this. Tell me where Zhuqiaomon is. We're on a mission from Baihumon."
"Aah!" Ravemon cried out, hovering in the air just high enough to prevent a melting fiery death, still his tail end didn't have the same mercy. Severe burns and scorch marks remained, data spilling from the wound. "You attack me and assume I'll give you information? I'm a Mega you kn-"
Kiya loomed over Ravemon, teeth bared as he grabbed him by the arm. "I don't care if you're the guardian of this region! You'll tell me NOW!" He roared, shaking the foundation of the castle around them.
Ravemon winced, trying to pull away from Kiya, but surprisingly the champion level Coredramon had a grip of iron. He couldn't shake him off. "Ack! Okay okay...Just let me go!"
Keeping his gaze on Ravemon's, he clenched his claws around Ravemon's, bits of data coming from where his claws pierced the skin. "Run away and I will delete you. Now lead us."
When Kiya finally released the Ravemon. It looked nervously around, before leading Kiya and Lyle down the passageways of the castle.
"Was that...all necessary? You looked pretty frightening right there." Lyle whispered to him, still in Kiya's claws and not at all sure they wouldn't be turned on him at any point.
The Coredramon sighed, nodding in agreement. "Scav's in the clutches of Chronomon. And we're in the South. Wasn't it YOU that said we need to be prepared? Because we weren't, Scav sacrificed himself to allow us to make it this far. And I won't waste a single minute playing these stupid games."
"Yeah...but you weren't even at ultimate level and you just showed up a Mega. Normally I'd be impressed! But it's not you and you know it." Lyle replied, concern in his voice.
"Oh you'd be surprised." Kiya growled out, keeping his voice low. "If my friends are in trouble I won't stop at anything. I was fully prepared to watch Ravemon boil in that lava."
Lyle gulped nervously, boy...Kiya really didn't play around when it came to his friends. And he was grateful he was one of them. Their conversation was cut short however when Ravemon pointed toward what looked to be a circular hole behind a flowing waterfall of Lava. "Here's the entrance to Zhuqiaomon's temple. If you can make it past this trial then you've already earned yourself a meeting with the high lord of this region."
Kiya observed the lava before nodding. "Fair enough...Lyle, hold onto my digivice." He materialized it, handing it toward the quadropedal Liamon then shot a beam of energy into the lava, creating a bridge of light that cut through the lava.
"Clever...well this is gonna leave a mark!" Lyle growled, clutching the digivice in his jaws and leaping right into the beam of light. It sent him flying past the barrier of Lava, after which he used the digivice to digitize Kiya from the other side, then respawning him beside him.
Kiya growled to himself, picking up his digivice, wiping off any drool and scrolling through the options. Now would be a very good time to inform the others. Given how the creatures of this region treated visitors...It might be high time to ask for some help. He sent a file to Jesse's digivice. Informing them of what's happened, and requesting some sort of aid from the rest of the group. If there was ever a time to bring everyone together, now was it.
Lyle and Kiya continued on their way, only stopping when a large shadow loomed over them. When Kiya looked up he could see the six winged, bird type digimon. The flame like patterns decorating his body really made him look all the more powerful. This was the final Lord they were sent out to visit. The Lord of the South, Zhuqiaomon. He didn't look happy one bit. Scrutinizing both Kiya and Lyle, he loomed over them. "It took you how long to make it to my domain? I would have assumed Baihumon's chosen would be more capable than this!"
Lyle shivered, bowing to the great bird hovering before them. Kiya however did none of the sort. His eyes remained locked with Zhuqiaomon, in defiance. "You're the lord of this region right? Why and how could you let things come down to this. Do you realize that you're closest advisor has gone rogue? And you've done nothing to stop him?"
"I should incinerate the two of you NOW for that insubordination. You obviously understand to whom you're talking to. And yet you run your mouth like a disrespectful child. Such is one born from the human world."
Kiya clenched his teeth, holding out his digivice. "You and the other lords swore to protect this land. Right now one of the champions YOU selected. My best friend...has been captured by an emissary of Darkness.
Zhuqiaomon's eyes narrowed, streaks of fire making their way towards Kiya, who leapt out of their way leaving them to harmlessly wash against the stone walls behind him. "I'm well aware of Chronomon's defection. As I'm sealed within this room I can only send out clones to settle things with him. A clone is not strong enough to fight a Super Ultimate. You want results? Show me that you have what it takes. Fight me! Show me you actually have the power to make a difference instead of whining to me about doing something. That's how this place wo-" Zhuqiaomon's rant was cut short as a beam of light shot forth from Kiya's maw, hitting him square in the beak.
"That's how this region works right? Showing strength to make your point? Fair enough!" He growled, pointing a claw at Zhuqiaomon before digivolving into Groundramon, eyes piercing into Zhuqiaomon's in pure anger. "I'll show you exactly what I'm capable of. When I win I expect you'll help us without any lip!"

This is true. But the humans had never intended for the d-reaper program to grow so rapidly. It was also threatening the human world too. But yeah I'd definitely be mad too but all that time angry and attacking the humans could have been put to better use in thinking up a plan.
*shrugs* if they actually did manage to take out Henry and terriermon then the d-reaper might not have gotten out of digiworld in the first place. Or if you wanted to get really technical if leomon had been taken down by the rat sovereign then Jeri never would've gone to digiworld to give the d-reaper a vessel to get to the human world in the first place. Think carefully about this....
Not necessarily. The D-reaper didn't need a vessel to invade the human world keep that in mind. If the Deva's could get into the human world then the D-reaper could get through the same way. Leomon would have died much sooner, and Jeri still could have ended up the host for the D-reapers consciousness. I've already thought about it and it does make sense.
