Bob Kiwi & Company: 2008 Holiday Card Doodles.
Muahaha.
So, because I'm a lazy git, December unfailingly sneaks up on me before I get a chance to get my annual Christmas picture off to the printers (or in this case, even finished), so instead what I do is doodle a bunch of related cartoons of Bob Kiwi & Co. in all that pretty whitespace the card companies foolishly supply me with in hopes I'll write something inside. (Which I seldom do. I fail at being witty when it comes to cards. My creativity demons must have some secret phobia of deadly papercuts, or something.)
ANYWAYS. This year's theme was supposed to be "Dashing through the Snow", but because my characters are all about as mature as I am, it quickly degraded into a snowball fight.
There's no real "order" to the doodles, though one can trace the flow of events to an extent by keeping track of Bob's ensemble. I just kind of grouped them here in a sequence that made a bit more sense than a standalone jumble. :) Also, I've included the captions I scribbled in the cards these stickers wound up in, to the best I can recall them.
From left to right, top to bottom, we have:
The Sign Holder, squaring off against the great BaNAna-defending Beak as a clueless Bob Kiwi waves at the camera. (Beak's actually levitating that snowball, but I didn't add glowly special effects to make this more obvious until after I'd already scanned it...) Despite the fact that Beak's evidently already run into Ivan at this point in the fight (hence the iced baNAna), he's treating this as a game....which is a bit more than I can say for the Sign Holder....
Far right, top: "The Evil Sir Ivan Kiwi had to admit, the Freeze Ray had its uses. Still, it was no Snow Cannon..." (Poor Bob. That's gotta be chilly.)
Middle Row Left: Bob, and Beak, having been toppled by unseen snowball-throwing snipers.
Middle Row Center: Bob winding up for a return volley early in the fight, when he still had his hat and scarf.
Middle Row Right: "Beak was determined to protect ALL baNAnas. Even snow ones."
Bottom Row Left: "Lita felt PyKL's training was coming along nicely." (Lita's the rabbit; PyKL the Psychotic Killer Lamb - a small and carnivorous sheep - is her pet. She's teaching him to kill on command....and I do believe said command is "Is he friendly?" In other news, I can neither confirm nor deny rumors that Lita stole Bob's scarf.)
Bottom Row Right: "Bob knew his beloved would never throw a snowball at him. Still, he had to admit, Bobetta seemed to find his predicament unusually amusing..."
...Fun stuff. I miss my kiwis; hopefully once I get my current Christmas/commissions rush out of the way, I'll be able to get back to their webcomic and stories....
Micron inks and prismacolor markers/pencils on Avery sticker paper. (Used sticker paper this year b/c in years past it's always been a bit of a gamble to see if the cards I picked up are any good at taking inks/markers/pencils without botching the whole thing. 'Tis a strategy I hope to continue.)
