It could never be run from. It could never be forgotten. No matter how hard he may try to eradicate the memories that hounded his mind, they continued to draw an invisible noose around his neck. It followed him throughout the universe with the fervor of a hound from Hell, keeping its unwritten promise to drag the souls of the damned back to its beckoning master. Even the hallowed halls of a once proud species stood as testament to his failure, memorialized in the stained glass mosaics that donned every wall. This was an event that all would know.
Dragonhawk's gaze drifted from one carving to the next. Carefully he gauged the changes he had made to the piece that was meant to represent his twin, Laharin. He had been the one running from the cruelty of a world that saw fit to forever memorialize his failure in a public way, through a mosaic people would see every day that they entered the ruins of the original temple. His twin should not be forever haunted by an incident that was not his fault.
He exhaled slowly. In truth, no one should be forced to carry such a burden; to pretend they are someone else and claim another's history as their own. However, he would always be there for his brother; his twin. He would never abandon him to such a cruel fate and would instead happily take on that mantle himself. They were inextricably intertwined, and he would have it no other way.
This astounding piece was done by the brilliant
thestickynotedoodler as a commission over on FlightRising! This is a piece of Dragonhawk surveying the past.
The only contribution I made to how this was the character and choosing the pose out of four that had been presented, haha. Everything else was left up to
thestickynotedoodler and they did an absolutely fantastic job on this piece. From Dragonhawk's expression, the ruins, the mosaics and even the tree... They went vastly above and beyond.
This piece also helped me to figure out his dizygotic twin brothers appearance!
