Today, after nearly 300 hours of work since around March 8, I released Alpha 0.6 of the Minecraft modification, PokemonMD: Disciples of Corruption. Many of my friends know that this project was just draining my life and making me a bit hostile and flustered as my obsession for getting this update out plagued me for months.
Still, looking at the difference between Alpha 0.5 and 0.6, 300 hours sounds like a grossly disproportionate amount to assign to the actual, added gameplay content; only six new mobs and two easy to miss recipe items. The update was originally supposed to be the Alpha 1.0 update which is to include the modification's first tamable and first minor boss tier mob. Obviously, neither Foxfire Zorua nor Sun Idol Espeon got into this update. Much of the 300 hours was done on content unreleased, also including the Vespene Condenser and Tablet Manufactory utility blocks and the Prototurret utility "mob"; the three of which were almost completely done.
But I can tell you this and players who have played Alpha 0.5 will definitely notice the changes where a huge chunk of the time went: at least 120 hours alone went into reprogramming every model in the modification, both mob and block and new mobs which had already been programmed before making the decision to redo the code. The majority of the mob model animations were specifically tested with the Morph modification installed since I have learned many people love to use it with Disciples of Corruption. I am starting to make that a sort of big draw for my mod.
Anyways, that rant aside, about this particular new mob, Cujo Furfrou. This is a mob that only appears in certain biomes at the surface under a full moon. It is one of five new full moon mobs added in the Alpha 0.6 update. They are tougher, stronger, and often times, faster then most regular normal and mini-boss tier mobs.
Cujo Furfrou, as the name suggests, is a reference to Cujo by Stephen King. From what I read in the Wikipedia post about the book, the theme was the insidiousness effects of rabies on a canine companion. So taking that idea, I made it so this mob inflicts poison on contact; an especially toxic poison.
Now, the reason I picked Furfrou over other canine Pokemon was one, this mob was originally created for a DeviantArt group who's Pokemon of the month at the time was Furfrou, and two, I am poking fun of a terrible looking horror B movie I accidentally found while at work while Googling an entirely different subject with the same key words. The movie was called "The Boneyard" and its star attraction was a giant mutant zombie poodle (no joke; I only watched a trailer of the movie though).
And there you go, I have an evil poodle in my Minecraft modification too. o3o
The only other bit to add is that its sound files use dog samples I found from somewhere but don't remember where exactly. Its one of the places I credit in my credits on the forum page. (normally my sound samples are either from vanilla Minecraft or Pokemon X/Y/Black/White).
