If Jag still had his power to eat bad guys and tried to eat Virax he'd probably be so scared he'd end up messing himself, which may deter Jag since I don't think anyone wants to eat a baby that has a dirty diaper. A sure fire defense to avoid getting eaten if he doesn't mind the embarrassment.
