The cigarette and the clock represent time, one in a linear, carpe diem fashion, and the latter in a circular, rhythmic, almost beautiful way. Christian view of life is the ciggie: once it's gone, it will never happen again, smoke is all that's left. The clock represents reincarnation: as long as you keep winding it the time will keep flowing for you, high and low tides, AM and PM.

I loved your analogy! ...something like that. He is reflecting on his past, wondering where his future will take him... How long he has left, he is a marked man after all. The watch is a pocket watch given to him by his father when he graduated flight school all those years ago. He misses his family...
Fall is the best time of the year! I can go out into the woods alone, in my T-shirt and just walk around, enjoy nature with a chilling breeze on my skin. the lack of Bugs makes it even better. But the best thing about fall for me? a nice 50f night, hard wind, Full moon, No lights on the ground, so the stars light up bright. walking through the woods alone.
