Skunks and ferrets aren't in the same family either. Skunks are Mephits, Ferrets are Mustildae

skunks and ferrets are part of the Order Carnivora while rats are the order Rodentia so as I said they are closer related then rats.

I never said they were related to rats, but telling someone who's family isn't approving of a ferret because rodents and smells they they are related to skunks doesn't help their situation.

If anything, the comparison to an otter would be better, as that is directly in the mustilidae family
