That it did, arguably as a response to a shift in Au federal politics towards the right. The dumping of Tony Abbott as Au PM recently is IMO the final repudiation of the regressive conservatism which Midnight Oil opined against, with that album.

I prefer to avoid discussing politics online, since that has flamewar potential. Suffice to say I like Midnight Oil both for their music and their lyrics. ;)
I think you're on to something, two years of John Howard may have contributed to Redneck Wonderland sounding angrier than any Oils album since Red Sails in the Sunset.
