well i found moss once but i never really checked. ok, i just looked it up and it is just more likely to be on the north side as long as you are in the northern hemisphere because it needs damp conditions and the sun would dry it out on the southern side. did that make sense?

You can just make sure you have all the right conditions and find multiple spots with moss. or you could just look at the sun. thats pretty easy. rises in east, sets in west. figure it out from there.

Unfortunately, no....it doesn't actually work. I have seen moss on many different sides of trees. It just depends on where the shade is. If the tree happens to be shaded on the east side, it will grow on the east side. Don't rely on that old wives tale. =) You could end up walking in circles.
