Though this particular image doesn't showcase some of the things that truly make him arachnid, rest assured he's got 'em.
Ash is the scion - demigod child - of the Aztec god of the underworld, Mictlantecuhtli. His blood truly lay with the god Xipe Totec, but before the Xipe got around to finding him, Ash died in a severe car wreck. Good news was, he was revived. Bad news was, he would never be the same. Mictlantecuhtli laid claim to the newly-deceased, and while he granted Ash a second chance, he refused to let him heal properly. Doctors considered it a miracle; Ash considered it hell.
As time passed and Ash grew in power, his defiance and reluctance faded into acceptance and pride. Sure, maybe his eyes are made of obsidian now, and sure, maybe his bones are starting to grow out of his skin. Yeah, he might have four extra arms, but he can put those away, sometimes. Still, he's powerful, and sometimes, that's enough.
Also, he's married to a rabbit girl. Who is like, 90% of the time a corpse. But she cute.
