This was done in wings3d? omg! it's so smooth! I had such a hard time with keeping things smooth in that program! It's simple, but I found it hard to use all the features for an efficient piece of work.

This is awesome. Keep it up!

oh its very easy to keep things smooth in wings

i used a old extrusion trick i learned from another program..

select a single flat face and extrude and scale for the handle

this is rendered with Pov-Ray and given 1 sub-division.

and final comment.
funny thing to this is.

the handle
the hamemr
the spikes
the bands
the collar

all extruded and then everything else.

this whole model started as a single cylinder
