*Sigh* Freddy... you really know how to destroy the mood
Ah yeah, here you can see the true lyrics of "autumn leaves" ^^
The falling leaves drift by the window
The autumn leaves of red and gold
I see your lips, the summer kisses
The sunburned hand I used to hold
A big thanks to

The leaves of fall, a rusting brown,
Say that you too one day fall down.
And journey with them into the ground,
Buried under with naught a sound.
They'll pile on dirt and they'll pile on rocks,
And they won;t care if they break the box.
The worms come in and when they're through,
You'll look like mulch when they're done with you!

Absolutely. Mother Goose has been bowdlerized so much, even since I was a kid (well, back then, even Grandma Moses was still alive, so Mother Goose might still have been writing) that I hardly recognize it. A lot of old favorites from the Little Golden Book series have been sweetened or even omitted. Years ago, I gave my niece (recently turned 17 -- like yesterday) a reprint of an early Brothers Grimm. Those stories weren't Fairy Tales, they were Cautionary Tales.
Yeah, my mother still had such things taught at school, though they beat left handed people there too so I guess an evil queen dancing in red hot shoes was right up their alley. People forget the very real messages behind these things. Red Riding Hood taught that you didn't talk to strangers and you most definitely didn't tell them what you were up to. Even as far back as Aesop we had lessons like the Grasshopper and the Ant. And of course they wonderfully illustrate attitudes of the time. (Forget evil stepmothers, read The Jew In The Bushes sometime!)
I've got a number of olde timey fairytale books, some of them are gloriously illustrated. (Interestingly my interest was spawned when I was stuck in a cupboard with one such book for a few weeks which is one of those 'what are the odds?' kinda things.)

Indeed, though sinister was originally far more vanilla, it literally meant 'left' once, and picked up the evilness on the way. (Right of course got all the good vibes.) On the plus side now my mom's ambidextrous. It's remarkable how recent some progress is. Australia only stopped government kidnappings in the 1970s and the native language of my land was banned until about the same time. You go back one or two generations and suddenly everything's medieval.
