I think you're mistaken actually. You can't pay for adult SERVICES (like escorts or prostitution), but you can pay for adult PRODUCTS (dildos, porn, etc). The ToS was meant to prevent sex trafficking or other forms of sexual services.
There was a huge stink about all this months ago, and MANY different artists ended up corroborating the same info with Paypal's official support team.
EDIT: And yes, this is INCLUDING the recent change in ToS. I can't be arsed to pull up the section everyone was pasting, but I'm absolutely positive it was about this 'big issue' that actually isn't one.

(i) certain sexually oriented materials or services
This likely pertains to only things like zoophilia and/or child pornography, possibly things like guro/gore and pornification of violence or other 'disturbing' material which people may beat it to.
Paypal has routinely come out and said that adult material is NOT banned, prohibited or blocked on their site. What people think and what is true are two very different things. People who get locked out of their accounts have it happen because they did something wrong, or initiated too many gift transactions or charge backs. Stuff like that. Selling furry porn is not one of those things.
I'm considered a 'senior' business account member with Paypal, and the last time I called them in I asked hypothetically if drawn porn like hentai was allowed. The supervisor that I had on the phone (was dealing with my pp card being stolen at the time) said that it's completely fine for people to sell adult material. Dunno how much more matter-o-fact you can get about it.
And uh, I've been a patron of a couple people, namely patto, and I used PP and it worked just fine. Lot of rumors going around, why people spread them though is beyond me.
Btw the criteria of certain porn being a no-no is an obvious one, since their first term is Prohibited Activities
You may not use the PayPal service for activities that:
"1.violate any law, statute, ordinance or regulation."
and zoophilia is against the law in the majority of the USA, where PP is based. Likewise, CP is banned practically everywhere.
