So, I've always had the concept of a race that even Hell would be scared of. I've always wanted something that was the ultimate boogeyman. Like, what would a Werewolf Fear? What would a Ghost, a Zombie, a Devil; what would they fear?

The answer?

An Anathem.

Obviously derived from the word "Anathema" which the short answer means: An abomination, accursed and otherwise a "fuck you" to creation/religion/pretty much anyone.

I've always wanted this creature because out of the 5 Elemental Aegis (Families) of my setting, there is a minority that believes in a 6th Aegis: The Void.

Inspired by the Never Ending Story from my childhood, The Void is basically Oblivion, The Nothing, the Anti-All. So the Anathem are beings from Oblivion. But, it wouldn't make much sense for Oblivion to "Create" sentient beings. Would be a little counter-productive, right? Well Anathem are not a product of Oblivion, but legendary beings who have come back from beyond the outskirts of all known existence. Mind you this means that they even Died in their Afterlife.

So in short, you've got a long way to go before you even get the chance to come back as something like this. Hence the ominous wonder, the fear and the overall unknown about these beings.

This is Slook after he has recently consumed the Arca (equivalent of soul-energy) of a wayward wolf, but I am hoping to have a Humanoid version sometime in the near future rendered. Anathem are basically a woven consciousness of Void energy that latch onto and consume Arca Energy (found in all creatures who possess sentience) to sustain themselves. The 5 Eyes are a natural occurring effect due to the 5 Aegis providing 5 Energies of Sight.
