Plantaegon guide:
World: Post apocalyptic Earth
Origin: year 4200. The death of mankind, and the end of the second civil war.
The skies.
The skies of the final city left on earth rained fire, the shrapnel storms never seeming to end. Mothers cried out for their children, children cried out for an end to it all. Soldiers counted their breaths, visible in the cold winter air. It seemed all was lost, and all the warnings we should have heeded were remembered in our most foolish, darkest hour.
We were destroying ourselves.
It was only in the chaos, that a mountainous figure slowly thundered from the reddened smoke of war. A war that was slowly consuming the human race, the embodiement of their greed, their hatred towards one another.
Her face was scaled and kind, her hide moss covered and aged beyond that of time.
The gunfire ceased after man realized that they could not kill it.
Their tears, wept, when they realized how many souls her clawed feet so daintly avoided, and how many they had carelessly killed.
It's slender yet mighty figure carried upon it's back a tree; a tree full of light. It seemed all of time had stopped as the reptilian creature stood on her hind legs above the smoke, the winds at her back. Her eyes glowed a once upon a time sky blue.
She inhaled, a similar blue glow extending from her belly upwards through her throat.
"It's attacking!" A soldier called, egging his comrades to fire upon her.
As the bullets sprayed her in a mist of peppered black, she sighed a comforting bellow, and the light engulfed her, the city succumbing with her.
As the light cleared, the creature was no longer. The tree of light, once rooted to her spine, was nestled in the middle of the now foilage covered city. Skyscrapers were home to Ivy and thistle. Windows, a sling for vines to nestle within.
The humans were nowhere to be found.
The small orbs of light flickered in the massive tree, their luminescene throbbing.
It is said that the children of the earth mother, the plantaegon, hatched from these orbs, and began venturing into the rest of the world she had created for them.
The first plantaegon queen, Silene, was the first to hatch from these orbs. The great mother tree used the last of her conscious energy to speak wisdom unto her, informing her of the evil creatures called men that had once spread across the land; and how they had drained their beautiful world of it's life.
"Give this world a second chance." Her voice echoed, and with her words faded the last of her consciousness.
What was there to discover? What had happened to the evil creatures the mother tree spoke of?
As many orbs of light began falling and hatching, Silene felt her answers would have to wait.
Current Queen: Silene
Anatomy:
Plantaegon are wingless plant based dragons. Their skin is either hardned like bark (if they live in the cold north) or smooth like leaves (if they live in warmer southern regions.) Tropical Plantaegon may have algae - like growths protruding from any part of their bodies. Plantaegon can be any weight or height.
They reproduce through spores, which glow like orbs of light. These spores later hatch like eggs to birth Plantaegon welplings; or infant plantaegons. From welplings they grow to adolescence, and from there they mature into adults. When adults, they can release spores at any time to reproduce. offspring appearance is based upon the landscape the spores are released in. Males and females can both emit spores. Both sexes' skins glow lightly for up to two days before spores are released. They do not have traditional reproductive organs, and instead, are told apart from their spore color. males emit blue, whilist females emit purple. About one third of the spores survive to hatch. males and females seek each other out to release spores together. doubled male partners and female partners may form pairs. Neither sex is needed for reproduction, but pairs generally raise offspring together, and the pairs stay together for affection reasons, usually for life.
All plantaegon share similar features. they have traditional western dragon pointed heads, large expressive eyes, and padded paws. The paw skin is thick and hard, like callous. If cut or injured, their blood is green. They have no internal organs other than a heart (located in their abdomen) and brain (located inside of a thick, pale green skull made of plant material, just like the rest of their "bones.") Their tongues may be forked or whole (forked being a recessive trait). In southern regions,a plantaegon's gait is cheetah-like, their steps very light and low to the ground when creeping or hiding. They also sprint at extremely fast speeds, up to 150 mph in short bursts. Northern Plantaegon are a bit slower, only moving at about 100 mph in short bursts. They are natural flight creatures, witha select fighting few. Tropical plantaegon sprint at the southern gait of 150 mph. They have pointed canines and pointed yet blunt molars. These teeth are used for defense and pleasure consumption purposes. Plantaegon canines can grow to be four inches long. They may be hunted or killed by traditional means, but if unharmed, plantaegon may live for hundreds of years. When they die, their bodies are consumed by mushrooms and turn to decomposed leaf litter.
Diet:
Plantaegon convert sunlight into food energy through photosynthesis. Underneath their skin are plant cells, filled with chloroplasts and chlorophyll. Plantaegon may eat fruits, vegtables, nuts and roots, and spices for pleasure, but the food is not digested as they do not have a mamallian digestive tract, and the food is later regurgitated swiftly without any discomfort. When either sex are about to produce spores, plantaegon absorb extra sunlight to help spores develop properly.
Behavior:
Plantaegon are all unique individuals. Each has their own personality, but they are all known to share in song. Plantaegon song sounds similar to piccolo and windchimes, with whale-like sounding calls. Males usually have deeper songs than females. They feel safest in trees, and spend most of their time sleeping in them.
Monarchy:
The queen plantagon (born every 600 years) is chosen when a plantaegon emits a pure white spore. This spore is taken to the mother tree (see origin above) to incubate withtin her branches. When hatched, the welpling sleeps until she is an adult, her growth sped up through the energy of the mother tree. In a matter of days, a new queen emerges and lives amongst the branches of the mother tree. Plantaegon seek her wisdom and knowledge when troubled, gifts bestowed upon her by the mother tree. Her lifespan is exactly 600 years. No male has ever been recorded to hatch from a white spore, so there has been no king of plantaegon as of yet.
