What a sad story!
This silly doodle was made by Rhos together with some other food based doodles. Turned out really cute and yes... the world has to know. Tarkus actually licks gold and this shield in particular. He likes it, because it's of a decent size, like a potato chip :3
Lore-Wise... Yeah. Tarkus eats metals from time to time, because his body needs them to keep his scales healthy and regrow them when he loses some.
Maybe that explains his hunger and greed for gold and precious metals.

You know what would probably make you feel a lot better? Giving some of that gold away. Mhmm, there's a village about 4 leagues south that could really use it. While you're at it, let's lessen your burden just a liiitle more by getting rid of just a single sword and a single cloak.

There is an amount of riches that is sorted out for eating and lying upon and all that, but it is mostly stuff, that isn't in a good shape anymore. Bent, broken and what not.
But a good chunk of his riches he barely dares to touch. Priceless artifacts and all that, and beautiful and pristine pieces.
So yeah... he kinda differentiate. If he'd roll around in all his stuff like Scrooge McDuck, it would just turn into a mess.
