TL;DR version: If you have a problem with cats chewing on cords under your desk use an old t-shirt to make a hammock. It helps.
A couple years ago I found a malnourished, scraggly, filthy, 4-week-old kitten clinging to a tree on my way home from work. I was sick, and leaving work early- luckily for him, as it snowed that night.
he quickly became Os little buddy.
Matcha...
Is a jerk.
He doesn't do well with company, and has to be calmed down with spirit essences' stress stopper and safe spaces. He has a bad habit of getting under desks and chewing on cords, and loves to chew on plastic. It started with Os' desk, which I decided to remedy by making him a little hammock and covering the cords.
It worked great!
Then, yesterday, he decided to get under my desk and... start chewing on cords.
This is why I didn't get those offline commissions done last night. I spent a couple hours sorting through old t-shirts and rigging up a hammock for him under my desk to stop the cord chewing.
He's gone from a scraggly thrown-out-kitten to... a spoiled little jerk. :P

It really does work great. :) I used enough rope to leave some tails for him to bat at/chew on/play with. The hammock under Os' desk isn't high enough off the floor to really suspend him, but he's suspended high enough under my desk that I can slide my feet under him no problem.
Hahahaha. Great minds and all that.
I got my grumpy one when she was two days old. She was born two weeks premature, and the mother rejected the litter. All her siblings died, and on Thanksgiving day my friend called me up, almost in tears, and asked me to save her.
I carried this little hairless, naked mole rat-looking kitten around in my bra for weeks before fur started coming in, and she quickly grew into the angry monstrosity we all know and are obligated to love or she'll kill our families. She hates everyone but me (and sometimes my husband), and even me she sometimes hates. Monster has literally chased guests out of the apartment by roaring down the hall after them and attacking their legs.
Yep. That's my girl. LOL!

Cats learn their social skills from their mother and litter mates usually in the ages of 3-6 weeks. So almost all cats who are hand reared have such behavior issues. They just don't know how to cat. Matcha is very much my fiancee's cat, but we've worked with him so he's pretty mild mannered for the most part.
I recommend a few things to help tame your monster-
First, treats/wet food given to her by your husband will help her associate him with good things.
second, play with her at least an hour a day. We got a toy called "Da Bird" which really gets both our cats jumping and flipping. That stops him from treating us like 'prey' and going after us.
Finally, get some http://www.amazon.com/Spirit-Essenc...../dp/B00OICMYT6 AND the 'safe spaces'. It might seem expensive, but a bottle lasts us over a year. Treat her with this stuff before you have company over (and play with her before hand) to stop her from attacking your friends.
These are all things we've had to do to help Matcha out. We also got him a buddy when he was about 5 months old, adopted an older cat who kind of taught him what we could not.
I dare say having your friends be attacked can't be a fun experience for you OR them!

I play with her a fair amount, but she just stays grouchy. I'll definitely look into that spray. She was introduced to other cats very young (we have three ourselves and nine total in the house, but she doesn't interact with the others), so she learned how to cat. She has good manners with cats, but fewer good manners with people.
I understand cat behavior pretty well. I've had various numbers of them since I was born, and I know the signs of overstimulation, anxiety, and so on. For the most part I think she is just prone to territorial aggression and anxiety. I've been working on the anxiety (she has a lot of little hideaway spaces she could go to, high places to sit on, etc.), but she remains aggressive nonetheless. It's frustrating. I love her to pieces anyway, though. My husband also feeds her regularly, plays with her, gives her affection, but she's just a one-person cat, I think. Our other two adore my husband and sleep on him or cuddle him often, and he's great with animals in general. It's just this one.
Thanks for the advice and the suggestion of the stuff on Amazon. I'm going to give that a try.

Ah, I see. Well! There is also a bully remedy that might help her aggression towards your guests and you. I've had cats all my life, as well, but I find there are always new things to learn! Nine cats though, sheesh! I couldn't handle that many, for sure! The sprays/drops totally helped our kitty, so I hope they help yours!
I'm always glad to learn more. :) That's the beauty of meeting other people - they always know things you don't. I'll definitely check out the line of sprays you suggested, though. While I'd like my guests (and me) to stop being pounced on in the not-fun way, I mostly want her to settle down because that much stress isn't good for her, either.
Nine cats indeed! Three are mine, two are my mothers, two belong to my sisters, and two to renters. Granted, we live in a 13 room farmhouse, so it's not so crowded as one might think. We also have a dog, goats, a guinea pig, fish, and chickens. Can you tell we like animals?

I use toilet rolls or the cardboard tubes from paper towel and gladwrap etc and where I can I bunch cables together. The fun thing is you can spray the cardboard black or whatever patterns you like put drops of citranella oil which a lot of cats don't like. All I do is cut a slit along the cylinder, drop cords in, tape the slit if dessired and by using more than one tube its like having joints so the cable can snake and bend.
I think I kept a copy of some of photos of your little kitten so cute and in need of you. Lucky spoilt kitty now. *hugs*
