Artemis and Zen looked out on the sunset. Artemis fidgeted nervously, despite the wonderful sunset in front of them. Zen was going to be leaving for a long journey to train in a far away land. Even though she had only known for little over a year, she had come to love his company. Of course their first meeting had been filled with more excitement than she had ever had in her life, but somehow, it had helped her grow. No longer was she a student cloistered in a lab with employees who despised her, but was conducting her own experiments in order to learn more about the supernatural world Zen had come from. For the first time in a long time, she was truly happy.
Zen had left before, but somehow, with this long journey, Artemis felt more distraught than ever. Never had the young phox been gone this long. She would miss his curious nature, his kind and innocent mannerisms, and even the unique abilities that would sometimes would debunk 5 or 6 of Artemis theories at once. All in all, he was a joy to be around.
"Artemis, are you alright?" Artemis jumped. She had forgot that Zen could read minds and wondered if he could sense her unease.
"Well...I..." Artemis sighed and suddenly put her arm around Zen.
"I am going to miss you, Zen. But I know this training is for the best, so...please just keep in contact. I--" Just as suddenly as Artemis embraced Zen, he began to close his eyes and murr. This had a calming effect on Artemis and she began to relax. It was as if his dark matter had began to permeate her body and was filling her up with a warm sensation.
"Artemis, I will keep a watch over you. I may not be here physically, but I am always with you spiritually." Zen said with his usual wisdom. Even though Artemis did not understand the scientific possibility of this, she believed the phox. If there was one thing she had learned this year, it was to be sure of the impossible.
