A mimic is a classic game monster; it can make itself look like a common, everyday object in order to camoflauge itself. Since their primary diet is adventurers, they often disguise themselves as treasure chests.
Thus, they are one of the few truly universally HATED monsters in any game. ;P
Seriously, it took one sick bastard to design these critters.
