DRIVER’S COURSE
<<< PREV | FIRST | NEXT >>>
So, this is the end of the driver’s course. An odd, in disarray and fractured course. All the folk got reassigned to new positions and moved to new rooms to be together with their new squads and platoons.
It’s like a checkpoint in our path. A soft reset. Social structures that settled down are broken apart, reshuffled and rebuilt.
Still….reassignments have not been kind to be the previous times they happened. When I first was told that I would serve in the military, they allowed me to choose which battalion I’d be assigned to. I chose this specific one because of the emphasis on communication technology and IT, and thus far it has crushed every ambition I’ve had. A tiny tech support platoon was formed early on, but I never had the fortune to be assigned to that. I’ve looked at their curriculum over the weeks and howled in envy and frustration because that had been my initial target. That’s what I was expecting, that’s what I wanted to learn, that’s what I felt was required to make this ordeal worthwhile. Arrrgh, a driver!? That’s all I am to be here, a truck driver for equipment and people?
This time, with some persistent badgering, I managed to secure myself a position in the communications platoon. It’s…something? We’ll have to go through a 6-week basic tactics course first before our specialization course begins and we see the true face of what we stepped into. Finger crossed it’ll provide something useful. Something to learn and utilize later on.
At least it’s not base defense platoon. Durr-hurr, set up our barbed wire fences and then man the entrances 24/7. Yeah, no.
