Actually, have you seen the recent trailer? KIARA IS A FREAKIN' CUB!! SO not only is Kovu out of the picture, but what happened the all of Lion King 2? Have they just decided to retcon it? What about the outsider lions? Zira? Nuka? Vitani? Do they still exist? When is this movie supposed to be taking place, exactly? >.<;
I could imagine that for a long time, the outsiders kept to themselves while Kovu was trained, so that they wouldn't raise suspicion. What I cannot imagine is a method to explain Kion's (and the rest of the Guard's) total absence in SP. And also - he gets to frolic freely with his friends (before he gets his superpowers, mind you), while Kiara can't even set one paw outside without Simba freaking over it? Will they address this or just handwave it?
The magic not being spoken of would have made things better tbh. TLK and S.P both were much more subtle on the magic part of their lore, Mufasa in clouds, Rafiki's shaman powers, etc were not so. . . exaggerated as TLG is doing.

Well, it makes me think of when I was growing up. It's stupid, I know, but sometimes parents can be stupid. "Mom, why can't *I* do what my brother/s do? " "Because you're a girl, it's different." /rolls eyes/ Simba probably thought that, because Kiara is a girl, she is more vulnerable and can't look out for herself as good as Kion. -__-;
